Thunderbird Falls, Eklutna This 200-foot waterfall is one of the most visited in Alaska. It can be accessed via a one-mile trail above the Eklutna River and boasts a beautiful viewing deck. The falls can be reached year-round, but cleats or spikes on shoes are recommend in winter as the trail can be slippery, especially on the initial brief climb.

If that's your desire, the 5.2-mile hike through Russian River Falls is perhaps your best bet. The trail is a great opportunity to explore flowing waterfalls as well as animals local to the area.
